Abu Dhabi, AE
Event description
Due to popular requests, registration has been reopened. Registration is confirmed based on preliminary questions approvals. Unfortunately, it is now too late to change or add additional orders for event T-Shirts and Finishers medals and so regrettably only the first 400 registrations will receive. As for non-attendance to the event, the spare t-shirts and medals will be reallocated on a first come first serve basis at the finish line.
Khalifa University and Abu Dhabi Cycling Club present Khalifa University Century Challenge 2022
The objective is for participants to complete the challenge, it is not a race.
Registration will be at Khalifa University grounds Abu Dhabi at 5am and the ride will begin at 6am, finishing at Jebel Hafeet Summit Car Park, Al Ain around midday
The route is 185km starting from Khalifa University with an approximate total ascent of 2300m including the infamous Jebel Hafeet climb. There will be 2 feed stations along the route at 60 and 120km mark, along with support vehicles with water and nutrition.
This route mixes the modern inner city views with rolling sand dunes out towards Sweihan, into the garden oasis of Al Ain city and finally the mountain of Jebel Hafeet, promising breathtaking scenery and memorable ride.
The route will be on open public highways with police assistance at intersections and roundabouts. We kindly request you adhere to traffic rules and other road users, using hard shoulder and 1 lane only.
In interest of participant safety there are 3 assigned speed pod groups for you to register in.
Average Speed Pod Group 1 - 37kmph 6am Start
Average Speed Pod Group 2 - 32kmph 6.05am Start
Average Speed Pod Group 3 - 27kmph 6.10am Start
If you wish to enter as a team / club, you may enter the name in the online registration form. Please note support vehicles and police are to assist the 3 main speed pod groups and should a team wish to ride within their own group it is that teams responsibility to have own support vehicle and understand police are supporting the whole event not only their team
We reiterate the objective is to complete the challenge and that the event is not a race - we encourage the participants to help others to reach the finish.
Should you start dropping back from your speed pod group you will be collected by the following pod, however beyond the Pod Group 3 we cannot support and you will be collected by our sweeper vehicles and driven to the finish.
On arrival at the finish you will be provided with refreshment buffet, ice bath recovery, sports massage and finisher medal.
Return transport back to Khalifa University will be by bus, provided by event organiser, alternatively you can make your own arrangements with family and friends.
This ride is not easy and requires a certain level of fitness to take part due to the distance and the amount of climbing and bike handling skills for the descents. Please ensure you are sufficient in basic bike mechanic skills and have your own spare innertubes or puncture repair kits. We wish for all participants to complete the challenge by bicycle and not as a passenger in a support vehicle.
We wish all participants good luck, and we can't wait to welcome you at the finish line.
